X-Games Locker Room

X-Games really gets going with Friday---day 2.  The town grows to about 70,000 with all the spectators and crew.  Friday night at X-Games is about the third biggest bar night of the year in Aspen.  New Years Eve and Saturday of X-Games win the Gold and Silver respectively.

Aspen Spin has had a backstage pass for all the events.  We've got to give a shout-out to the crew at EXPN, ESPN, and Ski Co. for keeping it real with A-Spin.  Special thanks to D.Chi who "gets" our vision of non-traditional media.  Also, kudo's to Hans Hohl at B-Milk who came up with a more user friendly lay-out this year.

After a brilliant bluebird ski day we checked out the VIP event thrown by OAKLEY and  the OPTICAL SHOP of ASPEN.  Dwight, Zepha and the boyz put on a show, bringing in sushi from Kenichi, drinks and DJ's Alai and Kai.  Snowboarders JJ THOMAS (USA Olympic Bronze) and EERO ETTALA, from Finland pounded the spider rolls as they signed posters.  Hiding behind the super-sexy servers we found SETH MORRISON, one of the greatest big mountain skiers of all time.  Seth is one of the "sickest" skiers ever captured in on film.  Some of the stuff this guy has "hucked" made us wonder what makes him tick. Luckily, he's really mellow and friendly and he shared this, "I like to live every day like it's the last". He's proved it so many times that K2 named a ski after him.  Check out the SETH PISTOLS, they rip!!!

After gorging on sushi and grabbing swag like it was free---oh, it was FREE!!!, we went to the X-Games themselves.  We checked out  skiers super-pipe, both Men's and Women's and snowmobile snocross.  You can check out the pix we took at left.  The "sled-necks" as they call themselves bring a huge following to the games.  I guess the motor-sports fans need made for TV competition too. 

We got the nod into the athletes lounge from our pal VIJAY, PT to the stars.  When he's not rubbing down the gold medal winners, he's introducing them to Aspen Spin.  We chatted with super-pipe winner SARAH BURKE.  She couldn't be sweeter, and she's really foxy.  Check out the pix.  She bumped her nose---with her knee----- in practice, but as you can see by her smile ---no worries.  TANNER HALL (see pix)won the Men's Gold in a dramatic face-off with his pal  SIMON DUMONT. Hall's switch 1080 was the key trick.  Aspen Local PETER OLENICK who nailed a "whiskey" double flip was good enough for bronze. The athlete's tent is rigged up with comfortable seating and 10 or 12 big screens showing "live feed". There are several Sony PS3 game stations and Aspen Spin got sacked by Simon Dumont in a head to head video battle  There's always a tasty, generous buffet of goodies, breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with tons of promotional sized snacks. 25 or 30 types of non-alcoholic drinks, and several "help yourself" boxes of stuff from major sponsors Schick, IronClad Gloves, New Balance and Jeep.

PERRY FARRELL and his new band Satellite Party  played a free gig in Wagner Park.  He's the former lead singer for Jane's Addiction.  Based on the number of barf-piles in the snow banks around town, we'd say everyone had a good time
